(Nashville, TN - Oct. 4, 2024) - Country/Americana singer-songwriter Dave Lenahan is excited to announce the release of his debut music video, “Absalom.” The captivating new video, filmed by Martin Buchanon (Oh Shoot Productions), takes listeners on an inspiring historical musical journey. The idea came about when Lenahan was walking in his neighborhood of Hermitage, Tennessee, and stumbled upon an old grown-over abandoned cemetery and was immediately moved. He instantly knew he wanted to do something about it; to honor his newfound acquaintance, Absalom, who was buried there in 1834 alongside his wife. " I got permission from the family to begin clearing and cleaning it up. This is the story of my adventure and trip down the Absalom rabbit hole," adds Lenahan. "Absalom was a remarkable man. He was a Davidson County Magistrate with connections to Andrew Jackson and James Robertson who named the city of Nashville. Surprisingly, we found more than 30 other graves on this site. The song and the project have been a labor of love and my goal is to preserve and protect his final resting place among all the urban sprawl."
The video was filmed at the Absalom Gleaves Cemetery in Hermitage, Tennessee, and includes 84-year-old Owen Gleaves, a descendant of Absalom. Gleaves and Lenahan have become friends and when Gleaves is able, he has been helping Lenahan to restore the cemetery to its original glory. "Absalom" made its worldwide premiere on Lenahan's YouTube channel on Friday. Watch it HERE.
The "Absalom" video release comes on the heels of Lenhan's recent single release of the same title. The song will be featured on The Local Brew, 89.5 WMOT Roots Radio this Sunday, 10/6 at 8 AM CST. "Absalom," is grassroots music at its finest. It's a true labor of love and is very personal - crafted from real-life experience and raw emotion. In this song, every word counts and is beautifully reflected in this video.
"I am so proud of how the 'Absalom' video turned out. It truly chronicles this amazing journey and reflects the love, hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that went into this project. I am also extremely thankful to have found Martin Buchanon, who was the perfect choice to direct and produce this video. He took this project to heart and it is evident in the final product, the amount of time and level of expertise and finesse that he brought in delivering the perfect complement to this very meaningful song," reflects Lenahan.
"Dave came to me first through social media, where I saw his posts as he discovered the cemetery and fell down the rabbit hole of history. It was fascinating to be on that journey with him on Facebook and Instagram. When I heard he had written a song about it, I was not surprised with him being such a prolific songwriter. Then, I found myself headed to Nashville to work on a documentary, of which Dave is a part, and I volunteered to help create the imagery for the "Absalom" video and edit it together. We shot at the location for a couple of days. Some of the shoot was about creating the feeling of discovery, which the song is about. It was a challenge because by this time the area had been cleared and restored. We used some of Dave's original social video scenes and mixed them in with things we captured with cameras and drone footage. Luckily, the song is very visual. Dave paints a vivid picture of what happened, and that leads the shooting and editing to certain conclusions. It was hot and sweaty in August when we shot, but the time period was about fall, so we had to fake it a bit. It all came together very well, mosquitoes notwithstanding. I enjoyed working with Dave on this project, and it was an honor to help him tell his story," adds Martin Buchanon, Video Director/Producer
Owen Gleaves notes, "I love this video and hope it is a hit for him. Through his interest and hard work, Dave has helped preserve this cemetery from developers. He contacted me through the gleavesfamily.com website to ask permission to clean up this cemetery. I was asked to call him and he and I have since become best friends... like brothers. It's as if we have known each other all our lives. Dave's video will bring attention to abandoned cemeteries and just may have saved this one. It is a true story in the song he has written and recorded. The video stirs up a mystery and makes you want to know more. The Gleaves family appreciates Dave's hard work and interest in preserving this piece of history. The Gleaves descendants will be forever grateful to him. He is an inspiration to me."
